Engineering-first 3D printing, built in Wisconsin

ALTAY Plastics designs and manufactures specialty parts, adapters, and tools — led by licensed civil engineer Alex Dye

ALTAY Custom Plastics is a small design-and-print shop based in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. We make replacement parts, adapters, and specialty products for people who need something that either doesn't exist anymore or wasn't designed well enough the first time.

Unlike generic print-on-demand shops, every ALTAY product is engineered in CAD, tested for fit, and produced on professional equipment in-house or imported from quality suppliers. When you buy from us, you're getting a part from someone who builds and test things for a living — not a strange file pulled off the internet.

Meet Alex Dye

Alex Dye is the founder of ALTAY Plastics and a licensed Civil Professional Engineer (PE, +other acronyms) in Illinois and Wisconsin. He earned his civil engineering degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2018.

Alex brings together CAD modeling, electronics, and design experience to solve practical problems — whether that's a battery adapter for a child's balance bike, OEM replacement parts, or hive tools that helps beekeepers manage temperature and humidity.

Before starting ALTAY, Alex worked professionally as a Civil Engineer and grew up working in a manufacturing plant that builds parts for OEMs— experience that directly informs his product lines, where hive thermal regulation and humidity management matter every season.

How it Started

ALTAY began in 2020 when Alex bought his first 3D printer and a family member needed a part for a STACYC electric balance bike. Existing adapters on the market required permanent modifications, messy wiring, or awkward mounting. Alex designed a slip-in Makita battery adapter that was easier to install, easier to remove, and didn't require cutting or zip-tying anything to the frame.

It worked so well that ALTAY began offering the adapter to other STACYC families facing the same problem — at a fair price, without the cost of proprietary replacement batteries.

That same pattern drives the business today: identify a real problem, engineer a better solution, print it, and make it available to everyone else who needs it.

Our Equipment

We print in-house on professional-grade equipment, including:

  • Creality CR-30 Print Mill — continuous belt printing for longer runs and larger parts

  • Creality SE series printers — precision FDM for detailed components and prototypes

We're always evaluating new equipment and materials to improve quality, speed, and the range of parts we can offer.

What We Make

Vehicle & OEM replacement parts

Adapters, clips, and components where the original is discontinued, overpriced, or poorly designed. These OEM replacement parts help keep things working long after others move on.

Beekeeping tools

Hive accessories designed by a beekeeper who understands thermal regulation and humidity management inside the hive.
This includes simple risers for hive feeders to the development of remote hive sensing and monitoring systems using robust electronics knowledge.

Hobby & specialty products

Model railroad accessories, classroom teaching tools, audio equipment mounts, and other niche products born from customer requests. When we see an opportunity to make something interesting or challanging, it gets added to the proejct heap.
